Former Juventus and Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello has singled out Cristiano Ronaldo as the problem behind los blancos current win-less streak, highlighting the player’s current lack of match fitness as a major reason
“The problem for Real Madrid now is Cristiano Ronaldo, because he is not well physically and is their best player,” Capello told Onda Cero.
The Italian tactician won two La Liga trophies across his two spells with Los Blancos, 10 years apart, and his concern stems from Ronaldo’s slow start to the new season after an injury in the Euro 2016 final.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner missed pre-season because of a delayed holiday anyway, but then seemed to rush back to action for early September and has struggled to meet his own ridiculously high standards in the month since.
Despite goals in each of his first two games back – Ronaldo has only found the net once for Real in the four games that followed, and coincidentally, Real Madrid drew all four.
The three time Ballon d’Or winner is currently with the Portugal squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against European minnows Andorra and the Faroe Islands.
